Projects
The Sixth Floor Trio shares its music with people in a number of ways. In addition to playing “traditional” concerts, we also love performing community eng
agement activities, developing educational programs, and creating major long-term artistic projects.
We’re currently working on performing Random Acts of Culture across the United States as a partner of the fantastic John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Read more about the Random Acts of Culture program and watch a Sixth Floor Trio RAC!
One of our bi
ggest projects is a new festival called GardenMusic that we are creating and directing in collaboration with the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Miami. The dates for the first annual GardenMusic are March 25 to April 1, 2012. Find out more and get ticket info here…
With generous support from the Knight Foundation, the Sixth Floor Trio is directing, producing, and starring (!) in a film project we’re calling “Music of the People”. Read more here…
One of the most important and enjoyable components of our lives as Trio members is our educational work. We’ve partnered with organizations like Astral Artists and the Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival to create educational programming for the next generation of musicians and audiences. Wherever we go we try to make sure that education is a part of our schedule. Not only do we feel a deep sense of responsibility to make sure music has a healthy future, it’s invigorating for us to share our passion and love of musical language with youth around the world.
Across America – in the spirit of Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale, which was designed to be performed as a small dramatic/dance/music collaboration piece in a traveling mini-theater after World War I. The Trio will outift an
Airstream or similar vehicle with a portable stage and bring our music to towns across America in surprise performances. Our utopian artistic bohemian dream – planned for Summer 2013…
The Petrushka Project! This is a long-term goal: we are starting to arrange the complete Stravinsky ballet Petrushka. We will then develop a film (animation and live-action) that we will play during live performances of this work.
