Johnny Teyssier

Recently appointed principal clarinet of the Malmö Symphony in Sweden, Johnny Teyssier currently serves as the principal clarinetist of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra, and has performed as guest principal with the Rotterdam Philharmonic. As an emerging soloist, Johnny has played recitals throughout the United States and Europe, and has appeared with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Irish Chamber Orchestra, and the Hilton Head Symphony. He is the winner of the 2007 Ico Ardán Award from the Irish Chamber Orchestra and the 2008 Juventus Prize. An accomplished chamber musician, Johnny is a founding member of the Sixth Floor Trio. He began playing clarinet at the age of eleven, studying with Dwayne Van Wyhe, and attended the Interlochen Arts Academy as a student of Nathan Williams. At the age of seventeen, he was admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he studied with Donald Montanaro. In 2011, he completed an Artist Diploma at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, where he studied Yehuda Gilad.
